South Eveleigh opened its first two buildings, the CBA’s Axle and Yerrabingin House, in 2019. Event Entertainers were thrilled to provide the entertainment for the official opening. We planned a program that ran from the first guest arrivals through to the welcome inside the venue.
Arriving at South Eveleigh with the Duke Trio
First, the Duke Trio greeted guests on arrival. The line-up featured three vocalists with sax, guitar and bass. Because the trio has so many voices, the arrival had real presence. As a result, guests could settle in with live music before the formal part of the day began.
Opening South Eveleigh with a Smoking Ceremony
Next, we provided a traditional Aboriginal Smoking Ceremony to officially open the buildings. A host led the ceremony with a didgeridoo artist and dancers. A Smoking Ceremony uses smoke from native plants to cleanse a place and the people in it. For that reason, it suited the opening of new buildings.
DJ, didgeridoo and sax inside the venue
After the ceremony, guests moved inside, where DJ Brett Martin welcomed them. A didgeridoo performer and Chris Gable on sax played alongside him. Pairing a DJ with live players gave the welcome a live feel. Also, it worked without needing a full band.
Planning an opening or launch?
We build entertainment programs for building openings, launches and other corporate events across Sydney. Each program combines live music, DJs and cultural performers to suit the occasion. Get in touch to talk through your event. For example, tell us about the venue, your guest numbers and the run of the day. Then we will suggest acts that fit.
